There are more than seven thousand kilometres of marked trails, and 165 mountain lodges, huts and bivouacs in the mountains of Slovenia. Walks vary from easy valley walks to long distance trails. Slovenia’s only national park is named after Mount Triglav (2864 m), the country’s highest mountain. The Park, situated close to the junction of the three borders of Austria, Italy, and Slovenia, protects many endemic animal and plant species. There are chamois, mountain sheep, wild roosters, grouse, eagles and marmots living in the park.
For a long time it has been something of a ‘well kept secret’. An ascent of Triglav and a trek through the 7 Lakes Valley, is a ‘must do’.
